Deep Hole Drill

Deep hole drill is a tool designed to work at much deeper cutting depths than twist drills. This allows it to cut holes that are several times larger in diameter. A deep hole drill has a special groove geometry that provides optimum chip transport and cooling, even at very high speeds. The coolant is either a full liquid coolant with a specific composition for this purpose or emulsified water, also with a special combination of components.

Due to the close tolerances and high performance that can be achieved, deep hole drilling is widely used in many industries. It can be found in the manufacturing of automotive parts such as cam-shafts, crank-shafts and fuel injector bodies, the creation of lo holes in injection molding and aerospace parts like landing gears. In these applications, the high accuracy and productivity of this machining technique are critical to the integrity of the finished product. The process can be carried out on a variety of machines, but most often on specialized equipment that has been set up explicitly for this type of application.
